This dispiriting but precise analysis of the relentless growth of the politician-lobbyist complex and what might be done about it was recommended either by Brooks or Douthat (I can't remember which). I couldn't put it down once I started. It's the best thing I've ever read on what's wrong with both our government and our politics
Rausch is an interesting guy, a classic conservative on matters fiscal, and (dare I say) libertarian on social issues (he is a strong supporter of gay marriage).
He's also, among other things, committed to talking to people he disagrees with.
