Medicine meets Capitalism

Bill,

I'm glad to hear you're going to the doctor, and I am appalled at your experience there. But as we both know, your account is indeed typical . Maybe I should find you a doctor who will listen to you.

On the broader front, medicine must change to meet the needs of its customers, regardless of how it is paid for. Atul Gawande, arguably the country's best writing doc, has written a brilliant article in this weeks New Yorker about bringing the efficiencies of large scale chain businesses to medicine. It's must reading, especially for health care providers.
